Characteristics of the plating process


In addition to the chromium plating process and other plating species have in common, there are many special places:

The main component of chromium plating electrolyte is not metal chromium salt, but chromic acid with strong oxidation.

The current efficiency is very low, generally 13 ~ 16%, can only reach about 23%, so in the process of chromium plating hydrogen precipitation, bring out the poison mist, need to have a good suction device and the use of chromium mist inhibitor.

The solution must add a small amount of additional anions, such as SO42-, F-, SiF62-, etc., but also in the electrolyte to maintain a certain amount of trivalent chromium.

The dispersion ability is low, for the shape of more complex parts, must use pictographic anode, cathode protection, etc., in order to get a good coating.

The current density used is very high, sometimes dozens of times higher than the current density of general plating. The tank voltage of the chrome plating process is also high, and a power supply of more than 12 volts is often required, while a power supply of 6 volts is also acceptable for other plating species.
